TUM brings MERIDIONAL to the EERA DeepWind Conference 2025 with a poster presentation
MERIDIONAL took part in the EERA DeepWind Conference 2025 with a poster presentation titled “An initial study on the environmental value of wind farm control”.
The EERA DeepWind Conference 2025 occurred in Trondheim (Norway), from 15th to 17th of January. Here, the Technical University of Munich (TUM), represented by the researcher Samuel Kainz, delivered a presentation based on the latest research results on windfarm environmental impact.
The poster presentation was the result of the work and collaboration of three EU-funded project on wind energy research: MERIDIONAL, Twain and SUDOCO.
The presentation focused on the environmental value associated with wind energy generation, with a particular emphasis on wind farm control. It introduced a method to quantify the greenhouse gas emissions displaced by wind energy generation in the connected electricity grid. Given the time-varying nature of this environmental value, the presentation highlighted how wind farm control strategies can increase it by boosting a wind farm’s power output during periods when fossil energy dominates the grid.
The “An initial study on the environmental value of wind farm control” presentation is available on the MERIDIONAL website “resources” section.
