A record-breaking edition for the Airborne Wind Energy Conference 2024

BRIEF NEWS

The 10th International Airborne Wind Energy Conference (AWEC 2024) successfully concluded in April. A huge success, also this year, with 180 key actors from more than 23 countries.

The 10th International Airborne Wind Energy Conference (AWEC 2024) was a huge success also this year. Taking place from 24 to 26 April in Madrid, the latest edition of the conference was record-breaking, with 23 countries represented and 17% of female attendees.

Started with the purpose of gathering leading scientists, researchers, and entrepreneurs from the emerging field of airborne wind energy, AWEC is now one of the most important events in the sector, where researchers present their latest findings and achievements.

The latest edition hosted Cristina Archer as a keynote speaker – who kicked off the AWEC series 2009 in Chico, California.

The conference was jointly organised with Airborne Wind Europe and Delft University of Technology, and hosted by the University of Madrid Carlos III. Here, 7 plenary talks, 70 oral presentations, and 2 panel discussions took place. Several MERIDIONAL partners contributed and attended, too.

AWEC 2024 was the occasion to showcase the Kitepower 40m² kite, together with the Mobile AWES ground station demonstrator. Also, the first ever validated power curve of an AWE system was presented, provided by Skysails Power.

Interest in airborne wind power continues to grow, and the success of AWEC 2024 demonstrates once again the enormous potential of the sector. Much more is yet to come!
