The social impact of energy transition

BRIEF NEWS

A recent research shows the importance of the inhabitants' needs when developing and testing new technologies for the production of green energy.

How does the energy transition impact our lives? The environmental psychologist Helena Schmidt, PhD candidate at TUDelft has conducted a study on how social science can make the energy transition more fair.

According to the research,  carried out with the contribution of SkySails, for a successful energy transition, it is essential to investigate how people experience a new energy technology in their living environment. People living near an airborne wind energy test site in Germany experience noise, ecological and safety effects, while the visual impact resulted less disturbing.

Understanding the local inhabitants’ needs is fundamental when developing new technologies for the energy transition.
