New Meridional dataset: real-world flight test for Airborne Wind Energy

BRIEF NEWS

High-quality field data becomes available to help advance AIrborne Wind Energy solutions

The Meridional project has released a new open-access dataset capturing a real kite-power flight test carried out in the Netherlands. Collected by researchers from Delft University of Technology and Kitepower BV, the dataset documents a flight test of a 60 m² leading-edge inflatable kite (model V9). The flight spanned from 14:14 to 14:32 UTC and included eight repeated pumping cycles, with kite altitudes ranging between 100 m and 250 m and airspeeds between 20–40 m/s.

Kite launch set-up

A video recording of the launch and flight is also included in the full dataset. The material is freely available on the project’s Zenodo page and will support researchers and innovators working on cleaner, more efficient Airborne Wind Energy technologies.
