Vistle Workshop brings data to life at HLRS

BRIEF NEWS

At the latest MERIDIONAL meeting in Stuttgart, the spotlight was on scientific visualisation with a hands-on Vistle workshop hosted at the High-Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (HLRS).

The session – part of the CEEC Community Workshop series – offered participants a practical introduction to creating their own 3D visualisations of simulation data using Vistle, the open-source tool developed by HLRS.

At the workshop, attendees could work directly with the software. A demonstration in the HLRS CAVE, a 2.7 metre immersive virtual reality cube, gave participants the opportunity to project scientific datasets on all surfaces, and so to visualize airflow around wind farms in full scale.

Following the tour, attendees learned how to build their own custom visualisations for both desktop and VR environments, gaining practical skills in modular workflows, parameter control, and multi-scale data exploration.

The session reflects how MERIDIONAL promotes open tools and practical skills to support the next generation of researchers in wind energy.
